Volunteer Opportunity on Five Mile Creek Greenway

Five Mile Creek Greenway Volunteer Event 2011

DATE: Saturday, March 19, 2011 (rain or shine)

TIME: Registration begins 8 a.m. Work begins at 9 a.m. Free hot dog lunch and T-shirts while supplies last!

LOCATION: Volunteers will gather in the parking lot of the former Roebuck bingo hall, 9820 Parkway East, across the street from Sonic restaurant, in the Roebuck area of Birmingham. (The actual work will take place one block west, near the cul-de-sac at the end of Park Place.)

From downtown Birmingham: Take Interstate 59 to Roebuck Parkway (Exit 134). Turn left off ramp. Go north on the Parkway. The gathering place is in the parking lot on the left side of the Parkway, directly across from the Sonic.

BACKGROUND: This is the eighth annual volunteer event along the Five Mile Creek Greenway. Past events have taken place in Brookside, Center Point, Fultondale, Graysville, Tarrant and Birmingham.

THIS YEAR’S EVENT: Volunteers will do minor cleanup of brush and trash; privet removal; and plant trees, shrubs and wildflowers.

CHILDREN WELCOME! WEAR GLOVES, COMFORTABLE CLOTHES & STURDY SHOES. Bring light tools (rakes, hoes, shovels) if you have them!

The Five Mile Creek volunteer events are a project of the Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership and the Alabama Power Service Organization.
